Last night as my daughter and I were preparing for bed, she walks in with her arms laden. She’s holding a pillow, that looked to fill her arms, some headphones and her phone. Her arms are still pretty small – so these things are a lot for her to carry.
As she approached me, she said ‘mommy, help me’. So I reached over to try to take the biggest thing – the pillow. Because of the way she held on to it, I said, ‘if you want me to help you, you have to let it go’.
Those words sounded awfully familiar. How often do we go to God for help, begging Him to help us, while still trying to hold on to what is ailing us, and He’s simply asking us to ‘let it go’.
1 Peter 5:7 NIV states ‘Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you’.. the NKJV states ‘casting all your care upon Him for He cares for you’.
Friends, our Heavenly Father cares for you and me, and He’s asking us to let go of whatever is ailing us because He cares for us and He can handle it better than any of our little arms can as we attempt to hold on to things that we are meant to let go of.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for always coming through with these very personal lessons. Thank you that you truly care about every aspect of our lives. Thank you that we can let go and cast our cares on you, but sometimes that is not so easy to do – help us to relinquish whatever we are holding too tightly to, that you are asking us to let go into your care.
