Do you have a favorite ‘wisdom’ story in the Bible?
This post was written in January 2018, but seems as relevant to my life today as it did then. I pray you think so too.
My all time favorite has to be when King Solomon thought he was in a dream when God asked him what he wanted from Him.
Instead of Solomon asking for riches or long life or any of those things, he asked for wisdom from God to rule God’s people. You see, Solomon was around the age of 20 when he took his father’s place on the throne, and he knew what he didn’t know. So, he asked God for divine wisdom.
And because it was such a sincere, heartfelt request, God answered and granted his request.
Proverbs 4:7 NIV states: “The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.”
People came from all over to hear Solomon speak and for him to render judgment. They knew without a doubt that his wisdom came from God.There is another story that while I knew, jumped out at me recently how godly wisdom was executed.
It is the story of Moses’ mother. Pharaoh had proclaimed that all the little boys should be killed. Moses’ mother knew that he was special and so she hid him for three months. When she couldn’t hide him any longer, she made a secure basket and put him in it, headed towards where Pharaoh’s daughter was bathing. In addition, to ensure that her precious baby was safe, she sent his sister Miriam to watch the basket.
When Pharaoh’s daughter found the basket, Miriam appeared and offered to find a nurse for him, and went and got his own mother.
By the way it appeared, Moses was supposed to be killed as a child, but instead, he was raised by his own mother in the presence of Pharaoh and his daughter, which in turn prepared him for the ultimate role he was to have of freeing the Israelites many years later.
Gosh, there are so many lessons here, apart from executing godly wisdom. As I’m writing this, I’m reminded that God used the time of Moses in the palace and then later in the desert as time of preparation. He would need both sets of skills: first – to be able to relate to Pharaoh.. then as he had to lead the Israelites through the desert for 40 years.
I’m learning that I have to pray for wisdom (it’s become a constant prayer) for all the decisions I have to make.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for godly wisdom. Help us to use the wisdom and understanding we gain to do your work and to further your kingdom. Help us to be kind to one other.
