One day this week, out of the blue, my laptop stopped charging.
As I sat down and got ready to begin working, I looked at my screen and something wasn’t quite right. When I took a closer look, I realized that the little battery icon didn’t show that it was charging, instead, it seemed to be going down at a relatively quick pace.
Not a problem, I thought to myself. I’ll just run home and get my charger.
I did that and returned to the office. It still wasn’t charging.
I reached out to my techie friend. He offered a few possible solutions, but ones I thought I’d already tried. He was in the middle of something important and offered to look at it if I brought it to church on the weekend.
Even though it was only two days away, I couldn’t wait that long. I thanked him and went on with my problem solving.
I YouTubed. I went to the local electronic store to buy a new battery, and they told me they didn’t sell them in store and I’d need to order. The YouTube video I had watched had also cautioned not to buy the battery that wasn’t made from the maker of the computer, so I had that in the back of my mind.
As this was extremely important to work, I was willing to pay what I needed to to get the right thing.
Out of frustration, and watching my battery dying, I decided to leave the office and come home to work from my back up device. Because I don’t use it often, that too was dead and needed charging.
As I plugged it in, I thought to try my laptop again. I plugged that in too. A light came on, indicating that it was being charged.
I sat there wide eyed and grateful.
I thought back to what had happened and possibly why two of my plugs would not charge in the office.
The only difference was in a rare occurrence, someone else had plugged into my extension that I typically use. I started wondering if that one thing could corrupt a plug.
And, unrelated, the very next day, I put my electric toothbrush on the charger because the power felt low, only to come back the next time and realize that it wasn’t even plugged into the socket (insert face palm).
So, my lessons from these two incidents this week:
Are you allowing the wrong people to plug into you? You seem connected, but the only thing that’s happening is that your battery continues to be drained?
And.. do you think you’re plugged into the source, but in reality, you’re not really connected at all?
Dear Heavenly Father, please continue to show me these lessons. Thank you that I was able to get around having to buy a new battery. Help me to be aware of who I am connected to as well.
Ps.. has this ever happened to your plug and is this even a thing? Please let me know. I haven’t been back to my office yet to see if I now have a faulty extension.
