What is your talent?

I’ve mentioned before that I love watching cartoons with my daughter.

This morning, as she woke up much earlier than needed, and I still had my routine to follow, I allowed her to watch one of her programs.
One of the main characters was in charge of putting together a talent show. He had to scout out the talent and slot them in for the appropriate spot. He was doing a good job of finding talent that most people didn’t know they had, or that were talents, but he still needed a ‘show stopper’ – something to make the crowd say ‘wow’ and to end his program. He had nothing – until he heard the booming voice in the school hallways. Every time he got close to seeing who it was, he’d end up seeing the school bully, but no singer.
The school bully also wanted a part in the show, so he kept trying to show off what he thought was his talent, only to be declined for various reasons. The talent scout went as far as holding an audition to find the guy with the amazing voice, to no avail. Finally, disappointed and despondent, the bully started walking away because he would not be a part of the talent show because none of the talents he thought he had, would be useful. However, he started singing. That big, booming voice. Then the scout realized that it was the bully after all, who had this show stopping talent. It also turned out that the scout had the talent of recognizing talent in others.
What is your talent?
I know I keep coming back to this point, but more at amazement at what God can do when we give what we think is our ‘non-talent’ to Him. I would never have considered myself a writer, but something in the hands of God makes it possible, but I had to give it over to Him.
What is God asking of you, and you keep coming up with excuses that you’re not good enough. Remember, it’s not about you, but what God can do through you. Do you know the story of how Jesus fed 5,000 with 2 fish and 5 loaves. God can make the impossible possible, when you give it to Him.
Dear Heavenly Father, we thank you for our non-talents that you can take and make it into something useful for your work. Help us to be faithful with the gifts that you have given us, and to step out to do what you have called us to do.
