What is your storm?

I’ve heard Priscilla Shirer share: ‘you’re either in a storm, coming out of one, or about to enter one’…

What a true statement.

This topic has been on my heart for the last three weeks to share with you, and this week, it came up at least 5 times, so I know it’s definitely time.

On our last cruise, we had plenty of rain. We had rough seas for quite a few days/nights, more so than I can ever remember experiencing. On the last night as we were preparing and packing up – our ship was rocking. One lady said it was even too rough to pack because the ship had been swaying so much and was giving her motion sickness as she attempted to hold her head down.

To show how bad it was, barf bags had been placed all around the ship from a few days earlier when we first encountered the rough seas.

As I was in bed on the last night, I could feel my body sliding up and down the bed with the sway of the ship. I even woke up to water from the ocean splashing on my fifth floor window.

We were in a storm of some kind. I began to pray because I don’t recall ever being on a ship in that weather before.

The thought came to me: I’m in a storm. What am I going to do? Am I going to jump overboard because the ship is rocking so badly? By the way, this was also one of the largest ships I’ve ever been on – which should mean more stable. Then I remembered the story of when the train goes through the tunnel and there’s complete darkness. Do we try to get off during the darkest times?

Me – not at all! I was definitely not going to jump overboard. Nor was I going to jump off a train during the ride through the tunnel.

Just like the captain of my ship, we have a Captain who has gone through many storms before. And my Captain is even able to sleep through storms because He knows who He is – even the winds and the seas obey Him.

Friends, storms will always be raging in our lives. I pray that you find the only true Anchor that will hold you when you feel wave tossed and thrown about. I pray that you don’t try to jump ship because the situation is uncomfortable.

Dear Heavenly Father, we thank you that your anchor holds. Help us to trust that truth! Help us to hold on to you because you will never leave us or forsake us, and especially not during our darkest times. You have promised to be the one to carry us – but we must trust you to leave it all in your care.
