What do you do with consistency?

I attended a goal setting get together this week. The one word that kept jumping out from our conversations was ‘consistency’.
As we each were coming up with our respective goals and plans for the new year, the common theme was: how will you be consistent to make this goal a reality?
I think back to my own writing experience. I was sharing with a friend from high school who is about to embark on his own writing journey, and we talked about being consistent.  I shared with him that I have published over 270 posts in a 3 year span to my blog. That was what was shared publicly. It does not account for the writings that are private between me and God. I have become a better writer as a result of consistently writing my thoughts.

When I first started writing and would google what it took to be a writer, each article stated the same thing: to actually write. To create a schedule and stick with it. My schedule changed as my life changed and what I needed to do, but even without realizing it, I was consistent.

There are many other areas in my life that I wished I had this level of consistency. I’ve joined weight watchers on and off for years. I’ve joined (and gone) to the gym on and off as well. My new goal is to create a schedule and actually stick with it.

What will you be consistent about this year?

Based on research, something becomes a habit after about 40 or more tries – depending on what habits you’re trying to create.

Let’s be consistent about what we are trying to accomplish – together!

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for being you. Thank you for the insight that you provide. I ask that as we are working towards our goals, help us to be diligent, but help us to create goals that will glorify you.
