Walking in obedience

I met a friend on the train a while back. I saw him reading a devotional and I interrupted him and gave him my blog card. I felt a little weird doing it – but felt I should. When he was done, he explained that he had been trying to catch up as he had missed some time and it was the second time reading through this particular book that his mom had given him.

We talked about our professions and he said he needed to do some continuing education. I happened to be in a similar profession and I had done the continuing education courses and at that moment, could not remember the course I used. I offered to take his number and text him the info when I got to my desk. Within ten minutes after leaving each other – I remembered. But God knew why we needed each other’s numbers. Our contact was not to end in one train conversation.

We have seen each other, often when I thought of him, I would run into him on the train and I could make sure he was ok.

A few days ago, he reached out to me. God had been calling him for a while, and He knew that God wanted his attention. But that day it was different, he knew he could no longer continue in the way he was going and he needed to answer.

God laid me on his heart to reach out to. When he reached out, we had the opportunity to pray and talk and as I shared my experiences, we both knew why God led him to me. He needed to start his very own faith journey.

He is unsure of how to proceed, but within a day I read a devotion that I knew was for him, and shared it with him. It basically reminds us that when God calls us, He equips us to step into our calling. My friend is already putting plans in place for when he gets his initial direction. And I am humbled as I watch the work that God is starting.

Please lift him up in prayer as he chooses to walk in obedience – no matter how it may seem to friends, family and colleagues.

Is God calling you for something? He will equip you. Will you say ‘yes’?

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for God ordained friendships. I ask that you be with my friend and those who you have called. Help them to see that when they willingly lose their life to you, that you will give them life more abundantly. Help us to say ‘yes’ to what you are calling us into.
