Two Are Better Than One

I recently bought a storage box that arrived and needed to be put together. I was actually excited about the prospect and looking forward to it as I’d read a review that someone took about twenty minutes.

When mine arrived, I took it out to my deck and decided the easiest way to get it out of the box was to turn it upside down and slide it out. It was a great idea until I checked for the instructions and they were no where to be seen. I started wondering if they really forgot to send me the instructions: until I looked in between the floorboards and there was a crisp white sheet of paper. This paper was not one from the past – it was my set of instructions that managed to slide right through the tiny opening and settle at the bottom of my deck.

I decided to go online and find the instructions: the place where I purchased it from wasn’t even showing me the product anymore.

I decided to try YouTube university, and was successful in finding a video, except, the very first step, I was unable to figure out the parts.

My friend and I had plans to sit on my back deck, enjoying the weather, and when she arrived to the disarray of pieces of my bin, I explained the dilemma.

After we settled, I decided to try again. She came over to help. We tugged and fitted, and somehow, it finally snapped in the way it should – with much labor.

We took a break as I was exhausted, and a while later, decided it was time to put the lid on – literally and figuratively.

She held one part and I drilled, then, held the other part and I drilled, even testing it out as a seat when we were done.

I told her, I wouldn’t have been able to finish it without her help.

This scripture comes to mind from Ecclesiastes 4:9: Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor.

And, for all the labor we put in, it felt perfect. It didn’t take me twenty minutes,  but it was much sweeter as it was done with a friend.

Dear Heavenly Father, I am so grateful for the friendships and relationships that you have blessed me with. I’m thankful for friends who jump in and are willing to help. Please help me to be that friend as well.
