The rain is teaching me more and more each day. Before it used to be that I should be staying home because it’s raining. Well, it doesn’t quite work that way, but let me believe what I want. However, having moved to a new home a few months ago, it’s teaching me that if it rains, it means I have one less thing to do. I recently started gardening – didn’t even know I had it in me, but my flowers and vegetables are growing. This is yet another thing I’m learning about myself. When it rains, I don’t have to water my plants – even Amelia knows that we check the weather before we decide whether we need to go watering or not. I’m learning that life is not all about sunshine. How much watering I would need to do, if it never rained? We plant seeds, or little sprouts in my case, and we watch and wait and see. What do we do while we are waiting for the flowers or vegetables to come? We make sure that everything is ok. Does it have enough sun? Does it have enough nutrients in the soil? Does it have enough water? We don’t just plant and sit back and do nothing. And so it should be in our lives.
When we plant a prayer seed, and while we wait, we continue to make sure it’s thriving. We ensure that we do what God has asked us to do. Not just waiting around for a miracle. While God gives us dreams, He also desires for us to do work to get them accomplished. While we are waiting, there will be storms and rains on many occasions. How will you view the rain?
Lord, help me to use the times that it’s raining as one less thing to do, because you are taking care of things for me. Help me to learn to appreciate those times, and even to dance in it, because it teaches me that only with the rains can our dreams thrive the way you intended them, and come out as beautiful and healthy flowers. And sometimes, it serves as a simple reminder – “be still and know that I am God.”
