I had the pleasure of traveling with my daughter. As we were sitting at the gate, we saw our plane approaching. She and I talked about the plane for a bit as we continued to watch the guy on the ground give the pilot directions using his red lights, and the positioning of the lights. When he crossed them, the plane came to a complete halt.
As we continued to watch, I noticed that the guys on the ground, to secure the plane wheels, put a little piece of what looked like a rubber. I knew it was of importance, so I decided to google it. I found out that they are called ‘wheel chocks’. They help to secure the plane wheels, in addition to the brakes being in place.
I was amazed that such a tiny thing could stop such a big thing from moving forward.
A thought came to mind. So it is with the tongue. The tongue is a tiny thing but if not used properly can do significant harm. If used the way it is intended, so much good can come from it.
One verse states: “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” Proverbs 18:21 NIV
Another states: “Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.” Proverbs 16:24 NIV
Do you notice how powerful the tongue is? There is life and death in the power of the tongue. There is healing in the power of the tongue.
How will you use the power that you hold in your tongue?
Dear Heavenly Father, please help us to use the power that we have with wisdom. Help us to share kind words, spoken in love to others. Help us to be a light unto others who may come in contact with us.
