One morning this past week as I went for my morning walk, I saw a piece of paper folded up and upon closer inspection saw that it was just paper. I jokingly said to God, ‘yeah, I’m really looking for money on the ground’. After all, who couldn’t do with a few extra dollars these days?
I laughed at my silliness and kept on walking.
Less than 10 minutes later as I was about to arrive at the park I had been walking towards, folded up among the fallen leaves was a $10 bill. I picked it up and laughed at God’s sense of humor and added my own ‘maybe I should have been more specific as to the amount’.
As I excitedly shared with two friends how I’d jokingly told God that I was looking for money on the ground and actually found it and that I probably should have been more specific in the amount, something spoke to my heart.
You see, the realization hit that this was not about any amount of money. This was about the fact that the God of the universe heard me. I can’t tell you that it was a real prayer when I first saw the paper, but God still took a moment to show me that He is always listening.
Fast forward to a conversation I was having with my spiritual mom about the prayers that she’s seen answered in the last few years. God is listening to us, and sometimes through the tears when we don’t have the words. And, in His time, He answers.
Even now I can smile and think of prayers that I thought had gone nowhere to see how God in His time and sense of humor has answered.
Friends, He hears. Keep calling on Him, and… keep looking out for the ways He will answer.
Isaiah 65:24 states ‘Before they call I will answer; while they are still speaking I will hear’.
The $10 is now in the back of my phone case as a constant reminder that God hears me.
Dear Heavenly Father, I remain in awe of your love for us that you take the time to listen to us and to answer, even some things we may deem unimportant. There is no detail too small to miss you or that we cannot bring to you. Thank you for being a good good Father.
