The Goodness of God

Earlier in the week, as I walked and talked to God, and processed my thoughts, a thought crossed my mind.

Something along the lines of ‘gosh… I have experienced the goodness of God’.

And then, a favorite verse popped into mind: Psalm 27:13-14, but I’ll share verse 13: I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. (NIV)

And, there’s another version I like: I would have despaired had I not believed I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. (AMP)

As I processed my thoughts, I was a little taken aback. When I initially found these verses some years ago, my understanding was that I would experience the goodness of God based on a specific outcome in my life, and yet, God highlighted to me that I was already walking in His goodness.

As I mentioned, I knew what I wanted to say, even having the title written down days ago – but I had decided I would just wait until my writing time, aka almost when it was due, even though the the thought to write it had crossed my mind multiple times during the week.

As I sat to write, the words simply would not come, I started wondering if I was to share on a different topic, but nothing else was coming either.

A song came to mind ‘The Goodness of God’ by CeCe Winans. I pulled it up, and opened my Bible to go to Psalm 27, but instead, it opened to Psalm 23, with a verse highlighted ‘Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever’…

I’m realizing, that God’s goodness is not determined by a specific outcome to our issues, but, it’s choosing to see His goodness, grace and mercy, following us, no matter what it looks like around us.

And sometimes, just sometimes, you have to beg to have eyes to see His goodness, and wait for Him to show you, just how good He is.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you that your goodness surrounds us. Thank you that there are so many gifts you give us, and are waiting for us to take notice. As my devotion read, being able to experience the sun rising on each day, the rain that falls when it’s time to water the earth, the beauty that surrounds us, these are tangible gifts, that we often take for granted because they are constant. Help us not to lose the wonder of your love, goodness and care, as you show up in our lives.
