These are the opening words of the song ‘Blessing’ by Laura Story
We pray for blessings
We pray for peace
Comfort for family, protection while we sleep
We pray for healing, for prosperity
We pray for Your mighty hand to ease our suffering
All the while, You hear each spoken need
Yet love is way too much to give us lesser things’Cause what if your blessings come through raindrops
What if Your healing comes through tears
What if a thousand sleepless nights are what it takes to know You’re near
What if trials of this life are Your mercies in disguise
The first time I truly heard the words of the songs, I cried. I had been walking through a somewhat difficult season and asking God why He wouldn’t answer in the way I wanted. But then I looked back and saw what God had been doing in that difficult season and I can now see the blessings that have come from it. Let me be the first to assure you: it’s downright hard as you are going through those seasons. But when I see the immeasurable growth, I’m honestly not sure if I’d have it any other way. God sees the beginning, middle and end. We can’t even begin to comprehend when we are embarking on something.
I once shared this story that I had read. There were three things: an egg, a carrot and coffee beans, and they were each put in boiling water.
The egg became hard.
The carrot became soft.
The coffee beans bursted with flavor and became delicious.
2020 has been a year like none of us expected. For lack of a better analogy, we can say we’ve all been put in hot water. It’s rare that in our lifetimes that the whole earth is dealing with similar things. How will 2020 leave you?
As we close this year, I have so many things to be grateful for, and so many things I have to look extra closely to see the blessings that came as a result. Just what if… this year made you see your blessings in a different way through some of the hard things you endured?
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you that you can provide blessings through hard seasons. Please open our eyes to reveal what you have done in our respective lives. Help us to truly trust you as we look forward to what comes next. We may not know, but we are reminded that you know the beginning from the end.
