For the last few weeks, this same theme has been coming up for me.
It is based on the verses in Joshua 4:5b-6 ‘Each of you is to take up a stone on his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the Israelites, to serve as a sign among you.’
This was to be a sign of remembrance for them for how God had parted the Jordan river on dry ground, and allowed them to enter the promised land.
After encountering the story in multiple different places, I decided to use my journaling time as an opportunity of remembrance. I wrote down the biggest moves that I can recall from the last 5 years. I put the year, and a summary of what happened.
The story still keeps coming up, so I’m wondering if there is something more that I’m to do with it. I’m even contemplating getting a visual reminder of one of the biggest things to put front and center, so I don’t forget how God has shown His faithfulness in the past.
By the way, if you do this exercise, and I encourage you to – I would say not to focus on just the big areas. I would suggest that you think about the seemingly small moves that God has made on your behalf, but it has created a domino effect.
What are some of your stones of remembrance? Please share them if you are comfortable doing so.
I’ll go first: One of mine was starting a blog, that has eventually turned into 2 published devotionals. I need to be reminded how my acts of obedience has turned out, when I’m being asked to do things that do not seem to make sense at first.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for the reminders that you give us. Thank you that we are able to look back and be thankful for all that you have done, even as we walked through seasons that we thought were difficult and can now look back and see that they had a purpose in our growth and who we are today. Help us to always remember your past faithfulness and that you never change.
