Sometimes, the Delay is For Our Good

A few months ago I received a phone call that made me mad! I rarely get to that level of mad, but I was there. And I was going to ‘fix’ this issue once and for all. To be honest, it was a situation that I wasn’t to insert myself, but I really didn’t care: I was going to handle this.

I jumped in the car, and as I drove to my destination, I had to cross over train tracks. This was the height of the pandemic and I hadn’t seen a train in months. On this particular day, as soon as I got to the train track, the light started going off and the guard rails came down. I was soooo mad. I had remembered in the days prior thinking how long it had been since I had seen a train and here I was, ready to go defend what I needed to, but being blocked by a passing train.

As it usually happens, the train passed after a few moments and I was able to get to my destination. However, those few moments caused me to miss the person I was going to share a few words with.

Today, I can say ‘thank God for the red light and the train’. Had I made it as planned, I probably would have done irreparable damage, but alas, I was blocked.

Are you mad at how a situation is going and feeling like you are being delayed? Is there a way to change your perspective to see why God is causing the delay?

Looking back some months later at this situation, I can confidently say ‘thank God for delays’.

Dear Heavenly Father, I’m so glad that you see and know all. Thank you for blocking our path when we attempt to take matters into our own hands instead of trusting you for the outcome. Today, I’m grateful for trains that take just a few minutes of our time but save us a lifetime of regret.
