Facebook showed me a memory of five years ago, and it’s kinda hard to believe that it’s been that amount of time.
It’s a flyer where I was to present to my friend’s church. They were hosting a series and while my friend was going to do most of the week, there was going to be one night that she would not be available. She reached out and asked. I had just become an independent financial advisor, so, I also had the time freedom to be able to the event, without having to worry about a compliance department telling me I couldn’t.
This was to be a financial education program, something I was already deeply passionate about.
I’ve been talking about mutuality in friendships and relationships a lot lately. I’m even in the process of writing a book on it because it’s such an important topic.
You see, my friend, and we’d been friends less than a year at that point, saw an opportunity she could share with me. She didn’t think twice. She knew I was the next most qualified person, and, more importantly, her highlighting me, would not take away from her shine.
More and more, I’m realizing, there is such a beauty in mutuality in any relationship.
I’ve discovered, if the relationship is only one way, it won’t work.
I thank my friend often, I know she mentions my name in rooms I’m not in. Our friendship goes both ways. We hype each other up as the best thing since sliced bread.
If you are looking for a friend, that you know has your back, in your presence and behind your back – why not ask God to provide or show you who that person is?
Dear Heavenly Father, I’m so grateful for this season of friendships. Thank you that the numbers don’t need to be large, but the ones we have are just who we need in this season. Please continue to provide for us and help us to be good friends as well.
