She Treasured All These Things in Her Heart

As my Pastor preached a message ‘You Won’t Believe What I Saw’, he shared from the passage Luke 2, where the Shepherds went to Mary and Joseph. As he read from the passage, the words ‘and Mary treasured these things in her heart’ jumped out at me.

As I came prepared to write, with no topic in mind, I opened the Bible app, and it was still on Luke 2 – I decided to reread the whole passage for my own understanding, based on what my Pastor had shared.

As I read through, the words came again ‘Mary treasured these things in her heart, and held them dear’, and was even repeated towards the end of the passage.

Mary observed and was told some things. Instead of running off to tell everyone, she instead decided to treasure them in her heart, and hold them dear.

I believe one of the reasons the words jumped out at me when I first heard them is because in a strange way, I feel like I’m also being directed that I can hear and observe and instead of highlighting them, I should simply sit with it.

By the way, this is not the type of thing that will harm me. If things are being said or done that is not acceptable, then they should be addressed in a healthy way.

So, recently, I have found myself sitting in silence and waiting for God to unfold His plans.  In a way, I have treasured up the things I am observing.

I can’t emphasize this enough. If you are unsure of your season, I encourage you to seek God’s wisdom. Ecclesiastes 3:1 says ‘There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under heaven. Verse 7b goes on to state: a time to be silent and a time to speak.

For me, this only serves as confirmation for the season I believe I am in.

What season do you find yourself in?

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for your instructions. Sometimes they may not even make sense to our feeble minds, but we know that you do all things well and nothing is ever wasted with you. Continue to lead and direct us, and help us to be obedient to the seasons you have called us.
