Remembering Truth

Are you sometimes tempted to listen to that voice in your head that you need to have more?

You can decide what the “more” looks like. Don’t get me wrong. Having ambition is a great thing, but knowing when to be content with what you have until “more” comes along is also a worthy trait.

Recently I had a dream. It was of a girl I recently started following on Instagram. We seemed to have somewhat of a similar life, but she had something I desire. I went to bed, and was actually jealous of her in my sleep. When I woke up, I was surprised at myself. I was coveting someone who I had never met, and it was deep enough in me that I had dreamt about it. That was a shocker.

When I woke up, I instinctly knew what I had to do. I had to unfollow this person. I proceeded to unfollow her. There was nothing that she had done wrong – she was showing her life as she had always done. But, it was negatively affecting me – and this lady doesn’t even know I exist.

After the last few days, and realizing how much time I spend scrolling through social media, I realize I needed a break. It was one of the last thoughts I had before bed, then when I woke up the next morning, I wasn’t surprised when one of my devotions as it was addressing spending more time with God, suggested fasting from social media. It was just the confirmation I needed.

Have you gone through periods of being envious of what you see on social media? I promise you, it’s not all it’s cracked up to be. People mainly post the good stuff. You rarely see the hard times they go through to get to that point.

The enemy also tries to attack your mind with all the things you don’t have but would like when you are weakest. Remember that’s when he attempted to tempt Jesus, so you know you are in good company. How do you defeat that? The way Jesus resisted. He had spent so much time with his Heavenly Father that he was able to respond with Truth. We also have to spend time in God’s word and listening for His voice that when we are attacked, we will be able to respond with Truth.

Lord, please strengthen us when we are weak. Help us to hide your words in our hearts that when the enemy comes to attack us, we will respond with your Truth, and not succumb to temptation.
