Reconstruction

Have you ever driven on a road that is being prepared for reconstruction or repavement? I know very little about construction, but I’ve been driving many years and have encountered it enough times. One of the first things I’ve noticed is how they go through a predetermined amount of the road and cut it up.

Depending on how much repair they plan to do, they may do little parts or longer stretches. They may even do the road on a piece by piece basis, but the end result is the same. Before they can start doing any major work, they cut it up, and make the pathway rough for driving.

Then comes the part where they pour the tar, and roll it out for it to become even surfaces. While they had it cut up, its rough to drive on. But when they get through and smooth it out, it becomes a pleasure to drive that stretch of road. Sometimes you can see the stark difference of where one part has been worked and exactly where the work ended.

I think sometimes that’s how our lives are. When God is doing construction in our lives, our lives become so hard to maneuver. There are changes that are going on, sometimes it’s not visible to anyone but us, but it makes for some jagged and difficult maneuverings in our lives.

But then we get to the point where He pours the finishing touches of our lives. For some reason, because we are human, it’s never quite done and it’s a constant work in progress. He has to consistently work in us to do the construction to see the changes in us. Sometimes it’s small stretches at a time. Sometimes it’s bigger stretches where we feel like our whole world is falling a part.

Is God doing major construction in your life? Does it feel like its such a bumpy road and so hard to maneuver? Don’t give up. Keep holding on. This work must be done so that you may be of use to His kingdom.

Dear Heavenly Father, being cut up and being put under construction is hard. It hurts. Lord, help us that when the going gets tough, that we are not tempted to give up, but that we are able to run to you, knowing that you can see the finished stretches. Help us to hold on just a little bit longer.
