Our needs

This morning I really wanted to share with you about the sparrows and how God takes care of these little birds, but instead I have something else to share. Now that I think about it, I can still see that God is taking care of this little sparrow named Kaysi.

I don’t spend that much time in the car. Most times I’m only in the car for 10 to 15 minutes, and so I’m ok listening to the same Christian CD for that time. I’ve been playing the same CD for about a year. My daughter recently found an instrumental CD and asked me to play that instead. While it was nice, I quickly got tired of it. That particular day, I needed a change of what I was listening to, and my goal was to go listen to my favorite secular pop station. When I popped out the CD, the song on the radio was a Christian song that I knew very well. Wait what? NY has a Christian radio station? I honestly never knew it, and I definitely wouldn’t have even known enough to go look for it. But God, once again in his infinite wisdom, wanted to keep me and my thoughts focused on Him, so he provided clean music where I won’t be tempted to hear somethings, which will lead me to other temptations.

This morning in the car, again the station is on K-Love, 96.7 in the Queens area, a lady had heard a song and called into the station. The song must have played before I had gotten in the car, but the concept was no matter how far we had strayed from God’s love, we could never stray too far. What a concept! This lady was crying as she recounted how her stepson had left their home and was basically living on the streets as if he was homeless. It was a heartbreaking story indeed, and to listen to her talk, you know how heart wrenching it was for her and her husband. But the song had really touched her heart in the reminder that there is hope in Jesus, and we can never stray too far and too far from His love.

After she was done sharing, both DJs commented on how true it was that we’re never too far from God’s love. But what got me bawling, one of the DJs started praying. He prayed over the lady’s stepson, on the radio! A full prayer that had me in tears that that was his immediate reaction, knowing that the lady, her husband and stepson needed that prayer. For me, that was a WOW moment, like none I had ever experienced listening to public radio.

Sometimes we can’t see how when we are planning on something and God changes it into something else, we may not see the immediate blessing that is to unfold. But once again God, in His infinite wisdom, knows just what we need and provides it to us. Think about the sparrow. Do they know where their next meal will come from? Think about the flowers in the fields. Do they know how they will be clothed? But God provides for them, and for us. Even if it’s to provide a radio station that will inspire Kaysi to stay focused on Him. He knows there are many other distractions out there, and if I can have one less thing distracting me, we can continue to enjoy our growing relationship.

Lord, each day I come to you, not knowing how you will provide for my needs, but you somehow continue to do so, even in the littlest things that may be of concern to me. Lord, help me to always remain faithful to you, because you are faithful to us. When doubt and fear set in for the future, remind us of how you have taken care of our past needs and have never failed to carry us in our times of need.
