My Orchid

Today, I’m sharing DAY 4 of my new devotional: Walking in Obedience: Learning to Trust God Each Step of the Way

My Orchid
I first started sharing about my Orchid adventures almost three years ago, and would you believe my Orchids have never sprouted flowers in all of that time?
It’s a sad but true fact. I’ve planted tomatoes and flowers and they’ve grown and flourished, so I know it’s not for lack of a “green thumb.”
I have iced my Orchids consistently. Nothing. I have changed their pots. Nothing. I have added Orchid potting chips. Nothing.
The only reason I kept doing all of those things is periodically there were signs of life. I remember once getting excited over the sprout- ing of a new “branch,” but after giving it what I thought was careful attention, the pseudo branch withered away. Again. Nothing.
My frustration over consistently watering my Orchids only to get no results tempted me to just tell my mom to take them. I figured may she would have better luck than me, and, admittedly, I knew I’d been less than diligent about icing them. Thoughts of why bother and nothing is happening kept creeping into my mind, yet even so, when I remembered to ice them I halfheartedly did it.
Somehow in the last week, I took the time to actually look at one of the Orchids and realized that a new branch had sprouted! Not only had it sprouted; it had actually grown over three-to-four inch- es long. All the time I thought my efforts were futile, real progress was being made! I’m still waiting for it to actually flower, but I am encouraged that something is, finally, indeed happening.
Do you feel this way about something — or someone — in your life?

You have seemingly been doing all of the right things, yet you’ve
gotten no visible results of progress or change?
I want to encourage you today to hold on and keep the faith. In fact, I pray that neither you nor I will give up but, instead I pray that we will reap our rewards in the proper time.
Dear Heavenly Father, I am grateful for these lessons. Help me to continue doing the little things that I should do, even when I grow frustrated over the lack of results. Help me to see that these instructions build my character for use in Your Kingdom.
Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9 NIV
