Make the Call

This past week was an emotionally difficult one.

I imagine we all experience highs and lows as we are navigating life, but sometimes just an unexpected message can do so much to buoy our spirits during that time.

As I sat at my desk working and navigating life (it doesn’t stop no matter what else is going on), I saw my friend from church calling. It was unexpected as there was no church business that needed to be addressed.

When I answered, my friend said, ‘I haven’t touched base with you in a while, so just wanted to check in and see how you were doing’.

We had a brief conversation, and that was the purpose of the whole call, a simple check in.

After I got off the call, I was just so thankful. The conversation wasn’t earth shattering, but it was exactly what it needed to be: someone thought of me and picked up the phone. I think it’s rarer these days because our tendency is to text (and for the record: I’m very guilty of that too).

Next time someone who you don’t talk to often crosses your mind, pick up the phone and call. You might be changing the course of someone’s day. And if calling is not feasible, send a message that you’re thinking of them – you may never know why they’ve crossed your mind.

Proverbs 16:24 states ‘Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones’.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for your love. While I don’t take for granted all the other instances that I’ve been checked on, thank you for that moment that reminded me that you care about the details. May we all be blessed with friendships that fill our cups when we are feeling low.
