Lord, Choose For Me

Last year as I was transitioning from the corporate world and into entrepreneurship, I had the pleasure of setting up my home office. It was a space I had designated long ago as an office, but had rarely used. I had been advised to keep visible reminders of my ‘whys’.

‘Why was I doing it this way?’

‘Why is this important to me?’

The ‘whys’ were to remind me on the hard days that I could not give up. I became intentional about what I placed on my walls.

Some of my whys were: my daughter.. there was a picture of her.

A vacation photo as I loved to vacation.

A reminder that I moved from another room – that I could do all things through Christ who gave me strength.

As I was looking for the next piece, my photographer friend David, had promoted some photos for sale. As usual, they were beautiful. I asked him to choose one for me. But, within moments, I got antsy and went back and told him which one I’d chosen. I was very impatient and probably didn’t trust that he would have chosen the ‘right’ one for me. He knew me and simply laughed and told me that was the one he would have chosen anyway.

After 16 months as an entrepreneur, a similar situation arose. He posted some beautiful pictures for sale. I was looking for something to put up in my other office. I told him to choose for me. He tried to ask questions to make sure he was choosing the right one. This time, I only provided very basic answers. The choice was his. A few days later, I received the print, and as I knew it would be, it was spectacular.

I liken this to my relationship with God and how much I have grown over the last 16 months. Normally I go to God and tell Him the exact specifications of what I’m looking for. Or.. I tell Him to choose, only to go right back and pick back up my issue. BUT… the more I’ve grown in relationship with Him and the more I’ve learned to trust Him, the more I can let go of my own choice and say ‘choose for me’ as I know whatever the outcome is, it will be good for me. I have seen how much God is capable of taking care of me when I place my trust in Him.

I pray I continue to learn these deep trust lessons because of my relationship with Him.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you that you want a deep and meaningful relationship with us, so that we can learn how to trust you and to take you at your word. You have promised that all things work together for the good of those who love you. Help us to hold on to these promises when we cannot see how things will work out.
