Lessons in patience

My daughter has finally discovered the joys of a pair of jeans. In the past, she has received them as gifts, but were only worn once or twice, on the absolute coldest days of the years because of the crying and hysterics that went with her wearing a pair.
Recently, her friends gave her another pair. They were well worn, and well loved by a trio of sisters. She looked forward with anticipation to being able to wear them to school. So much so, that she wore them two days in a row. Parents, you will understand that some fights just aren’t worth it – so I gave in and allowed her wear them back to back days.
When she got home on the second day, still being excited about them, I decided to offer to buy her some jeans. She is growing like a weed, and always needs clothes anyway. I know that children’s place normally has a great deal, and I also had just received a bonus surprise to entice me to shop. It was a win win. I told her of my plan to purchase, and showed her the site and gave her the choice. We do a lot of things online.
She made her selection and I told her that I’d order them later when I had time. As I try to keep my promises, I ordered them and when she got home, told her of the expected delivery date. It was about a week later. She started complaining and asking if we couldn’t have ordered it on amazon. I laughed because I knew exactly what she was asking. She’s already been introduced to Amazon’s prime 2 day delivery. Hardly. Any. Wait. Time.
Of course I started thinking of my own life. We live in a culture where we don’t have to wait for anything. How will we learn the virtue of patience when life seems to happen instantaneously? I have a feeling God has His ways, and knows exactly which courses to put us through so that we can learn these valuable lessons.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you that even when society tells us something, you know what’s best for us. Please guide our lives so that we can learn how to trust you, even through the harder lessons. Please bless my family and friends who are in their waiting seasons and waiting for an answer that only you can give.
