King David

I’m not a theologian, so please forgive me if I don’t get all the details right. I’m just a girl struggling to learn more and excited to share my devotion with you.
I opened my bible to the devotion related to 1 Chronicles 12:23-40. This passage is titled ‘others join David at Hebron’. It goes on to list the # of men from each of the army who came to help David overtake Saul. I would have to pull out a calculator to give you a #, and even then I’d be wrong, as some texts say, ‘with all their relatives under their command’, so I wouldn’t even be accounting for everyone.
The reason this story stands out is I’m reading a book, and it’s on the life of David. David was anointed by Samuel at the age of 10 to be king, but was sent back to the fields to continue being a shepherd. While God had selected him to be king, there was so much he had to learn to prepare. A lot of mundane things that you wouldn’t expect, but it was all a part of God’s perfect plan.
In psalms 13, David has a pointed plea, begging God ‘how long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever?’ And continues in 13:2, ‘How long will you hide your face from me?’ But you know what? He doesn’t end the passage with the How long questions, he goes on to praise. He ends in 13:5-6 ‘But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. I will sing to the Lord, for he has been good to me.’
God had not forgotten David. God had been waiting for His perfect time and for David to be ready. When the time became right, God sent hundreds of thousands of men to support him and help him to overtake Saul.
What have you been waiting on God for, and He seems to be silent? Just know He has not forgotten you. Continue to wait and to trust Him. God’s timing is perfect, and sometimes He’s growing us through the situations that we are placed in, so He can get us where He needs us.
Dear Heavenly Father, we thank you for your love and for how stories on how the bible fits together? Lord, continue to teach us, continue to open our eyes to the things that you need us to see. Help us to wait upon you, trusting that your timing for everything in our lives is perfect, but we need to trust you and not give up hope.
