Has something ever occurred to you and it left you processing the ‘new’ information?
That’s where I found myself this week.
Something happened to me as I thought of the Fruit of the Spirit, and I realized there was more work to be done in me. I laughed and thought how funny it would be if it showed up the next day as the Bible app’s Verse of the Day. It didn’t.
Instead, it showed up pointedly in my daily devotion of Proverbs31.
Ahhh.. yes, there is more work being done in me.
Just in case you’re wondering if I thought I had them all. I hadn’t even considered it. I think gaining the fruit of the spirit is a lifelong journey, but some areas are stronger than others. And, I’ll save you having to look them up yourself.
Galatians 5:22-23 states ‘But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.’
And as I pondered this thought, another verse came to mind: James 1:4 states ‘Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything’..
Ahhhh.. and while I still might not understand everything and all this means, I realize that God continues to do a work in my life. And in the process, He’s maturing me.
Side note: if you wonder if I actually know all these verses, I don’t. A few words from them may come to mind, and then I go searching my best friend (Google) for the rest of the words and where it’s found, so I can have proper context.
Has the Lord revealed that He’s continuing to work in you? Did that surprise you or were you aware?
To be honest, this particular fruit both surprised me and didn’t, as I considered who I am.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you that you continue to show us your care and that you have our best interest at heart. Thank you that you don’t want us to lack any good thing and that you continue to work in our lives. Please keep us moldable in the palm of your hands.
