Some years ago, I was sharing with a friend how I was constantly waking up around the same time in the wee hours of the morning. He shared with me that he had developed a principle based on when God called Samuel. After being awake for a while, he would ask God to speak as he was listening.
I’ve since adopted that same methodology and I can say it’s been life changing.
I’ve seemed to be waking up more frequently in the wee hours of the morning recently. While I’d much prefer to be sleeping at that time, if 30-40 minutes goes by and I’m still up, I ask God if there’s something He wants me to know. To be honest, I’d also much rather if He speaks to my heart while I lay comfortably in bed, but I know that is a rarity, so instead, I have to get out of bed, and go open my Bible, and read.
I’ve had some of the sweetest moments as I’ve experienced God’s love for me through His written words. I’ve felt God’s love for me in other ways too – through songs I have not heard in years, coming back to memory, only to find them on YouTube and it’s not just the chorus that speaks to my life, but the whole song (that I might not even have known).
Do you keep waking up at the same time in the wee hours of the morning? Just maybe, your Heavenly Father is trying to get your attention while the rest of the world is asleep.
Would you join me and ask Him to speak, then move in expectancy to hear His instructions for you?
Dear Heavenly Father, I remain in awe of your love for me. It still surprises me that you would draw divinely close to me as you whisper of your love, but you do it in such a way that it is unmistakable that it’s coming from you. Thank you.
Ps. Happy holidays. I hope you will take some time during this season and reflect on the goodness of God, even if life looks differently than you expected.
