Yesterday morning I woke up with the thought on my mind that I should listen to a particular Pastor I enjoy, where I know he usually has a profound word for me. But even before I got out of bed, I saw that I had a message inviting me to a program that was to start in a couple of hours.
The flyer had a picture of my friend, and is someone that had spoken a scripture to me at the very beginning of my writing journey. The title of the program was ‘God Still Speaks’. I knew it was going to be good and mentally adjusted my morning to attend the program.
No sooner after I started my own devotion that I saw the title of the sermon from the pastor that I knew I was going to listen to ‘Hearing God’s Voice’. I could already see the theme running through. As I continued in devotion, the very scripture I just told you my friend gave me many years ago showed up. Ok.. I had to text her because I knew it was no coincidence.
After I listened to the sermon on ‘Hearing God’s Voice’ and the pastor presented a practical outline of instruction to hear and then be obedient, I decided to hop over to the other program where my friend would be speaking.
As I sat listening to one of the prayers, a word popped out at me. Passport. You see, just the evening before, I had received a notice from my town, thought to myself to check my passport and the expiration – walked in the door and forgot about both the notice and the passport. Here I was again, and ‘passport’ came to the forefront of my mind. This time I got up immediately to check. It expires in a few months – and the exact time I’m planning on taking a trip.
By the way, an expired passport was the topic of last week’s blog post.
Does God still speak? My personal experience… ABSOLUTELY. Are we listening for when He speaks? Are we sitting quietly to hear His instructions then following those instructions?
When I shared my testimony with the prayer line, my friend who had invited me then shared that she had passed over my name a few times when sending out the invite, but kept on being told to go back. She eventually scrolled all the way back and sent me the invite. And.. because of so many other things, I accepted the invite to show up.
She, too, had to be obedient to her instructions of sending me the flyer.
I wholeheartedly believe that God still speaks today. The question then becomes, are we paying attention and listening?
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for the quiet moments that you choose to speak in. Thank you that we can come to you directly with our needs and desires, and even as the God of the universe, you still choose to listen and speak to us.
