Good or Bad Things?

Waking up at 4:45 on a Sunday morning is never fun.

While I know that I have to write, I know the exact time I need to be up to get it done.

I had a feeling I should’ve gotten up to go read my Bible as the Lord wanted to meet with me. As I am me, I kind of asked if we couldn’t wait until 6:30 which is around my usual time of waking up even on a Sunday morning.

As I laid there for another hour, unable to fall back asleep, I finally decided to be obedient and grab my Bible. As I sat in my quiet spot and opened up my Bible, it opened to Job 2:9-10.

‘His wife said to him, ‘are you still holding onto your integrity? Curse God and die!’

He replied, ‘you are talking like a foolish woman. Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?’

I have underlined the portion that says ‘shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?’ and dated from a couple years ago.

In this life, I’ve come to realize that God will do many good things, but sometimes we will also walk through very hard seasons.

As we are walking through those hard seasons, we will have to wonder: are we only here for the good that God can do or will we proverbially curse God and die when bad things happen?

I don’t say any of this to be insensitive because I know people are dealing with some hard seasons in their lives. I’ve also lived long enough to see that good can come from even the hardest seasons. And while I was not led to Job 42:5 this morning, I know exactly what it says: ‘my ears had heard of you, but now my eyes have seen you’.

Job walked through one of the hardest things that anyone will ever walk through. Yet he did not care Scott and die and his conclusion as the chapter wrapped up was he had seen God for himself.

I pray that as we are walking through difficult seasons, that we know that both good and bad things will happen in this life, but we can trust the one who holds all of us in His hands.

Heavenly Father would you surround us with your love? May we realize and accept that both good and bad things will happen in this life, but that does not change the fact that you are still God and you have our best interest at heart and you will work it out for or good ultimately.

Ps. Please pray for my dear friend who lost her mother a few days ago.
