This week I had some of the coolest experiences with God.
A couple months ago, on my daughter‘s birthday, we had gone to the store and we had seen a pair of sneakers that she really wanted. The price was about a third of what it would normally sell for. When she looked at the size, it was a half a size too small. We left that store deflated and because it was a fun day. We decided to drive around to other stores looking for the same sneakers and potentially the same price. We went to about five different stores. We did not find it.
Fast forward to this past weekend and late in the evening she insisted she wanted to go out for an adventure. I was puzzled, what kind of adventure do we want to do at 6 o’clock on a Sunday evening? She ultimately requested to go to a store. I thought of a few that we could go to and decided to go to one that I knew would be a little bit quieter.
As we got there, she wondered if she would be able to find those particular sneakers again as it was the same store. She walked away for a second to look at something else and I started praying internally. I said Lord, ‘could you just do it for us?’ As I was praying, I heard her approaching and turned around, and she did not look at me. She looked straight behind me and yelled at the fact that the sneakers were there.
I could hardly believe it.
How cool is it that I’m literally praying and God answers immediately!
The excitement was short-lived and turned to somewhat frustration. When she looked at them, it turned out to be the same size as last time; a half a size too small.
I started asking God, ‘why would you answer my prayer like this if it were not the right size? Would you allow us to find the right size for her?’
We decided to hold onto them and walk around looking for the half a size larger. When we did not find it, I suggested for her to put her feet in them. They did not slip inside, but they went on. I googled how to stretch sneakers and found a reasonable answer.
We decided to buy them and bring them home and if the stretching did not work, we would simply return them.
My daughter already has a similar style from a couple years ago, but as an athlete, I thought it was important for her to have another one. I love to give her the desires of her heart.
When we got home and she held them side-by-side, her worn ones with her new ones, even though the numbers on the inside were different, the sizing was exactly the same.
The method of stretching we had decided on was simply to walk around in them for a few minutes each day. By the second day of putting them on, they already went on much easier.
I am tremendously grateful for a Heavenly Father, who gives the desires of our hearts, even when the thing does not look like it will fit. He has given a distinct promise that no good thing will he withhold from us, and that is a promise I hold dearly.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for your love and care, in even the smallest things. Thank you for seeing the desires of my daughter’s heart and answering them. Please continue to build our faith and trust in you.
