I’m sure I own multiple bibles. But my favorite is a couple’s devotional bible that I bought when I got married. I believe I’ve gotten much more use and comfort from it as a single person, than I did married. I think this is the time that God has called me to really be with Him and to spend time getting to know Him. I can say it’s been a surreal experience.
The reason I mention my bible is, it’s filled with God’s promises. Promises He made to countless people. You know what I think is the best part? He keeps His promises. Every. Single. One.
I think of His promise to Noah, to never flood the earth, and sent a rainbow as a reminder. To this day, the rainbows still appear after the rains.
I think of His promise to Caleb to give him land. While it took 25 years to come to fruition, God did not fail him.
I think of God’s promises to David. While He told David that he wasn’t the one to build the house for the ark, He made him some wonderful promises. I think of a picture I saw recently, which states: ‘even a no from God has goodness written all over it’.
I think of His promise to Sarah and Abraham, to have descendants as there were stars in the skies. They just had to trust Him. They waited 20 years. This one is particularly special to me, (my daughter and I read this story frequently) because I think God wanted to show them that based on their ages, it would have been impossible for them biologically. But God had made them a promise and told them to trust Him.
God makes us many promises, and sometimes we can’t see how they will work, but I think more than anything, God is asking us to trust Him and to leave things in His hands.
Dear Heavenly Father, we thank you for your grace and your mercies. We thank you that they are new each day. We thank you for your promises, knowing that we can trust you in all things and your words will never return void.
