A few days after I wrote this one, it rained hard, and then the most beautiful double rainbow appeared it the sky. It was definitely confirmation that God keeps His promises.
I just heard the story of Abraham, Sarah and Isaac, as told by the bible story app for kids. It brought me to tears. God made a promise to Abraham and Sarah for them to be fruitful. Abraham was already 80 and Sarah 70, even after 20 years God had not delivered on His promise, but he reminded Sarah and Abraham of that promise. It said that Abraham had trusted God in that time, that He would keep His word. Imagine the emotions they must have felt as their promise finally came true, 20 years later. But even after that, God tested Abraham. After waiting 100 years (literally, not figuratively) for a son, God told Abraham to go sacrifice Isaac, his beloved son. Say what? Yes, go sacrifice Isaac. You know what? I’m sure his heart must have been heavy as he took that hike first with his servants and then with just him and Isaac. I’m sure he prayed the whole way up for guidance. Then Isaac even asked where was the sacrifice. Abraham knew that God would provide, and gave Isaac that answer. Even though he didn’t know himself at that moment, he knew that God had not brought him that far to abandon him, so he trusted Him wholeheartedly. He even went as far as building the altar and laying his precious son on it. God saw Abraham’s faith, and just as he raised the knife, God did provide a ram.
I believe this story is teaching us two very important lessons. The first is no matter how long it takes, when God has made a promise, He will keep it. The second is, we need to trust God and be patient. God’s timing is perfect. He can see the beginning from the end, and he knows our needs before we do.
Lord, help me to trust that your promises are true. Lord, help me to wait upon your promises, no matter how long it takes for them to be fulfilled.
