God vs Alexa

I recently bought an Amazon device – the echo dot. I did a very quick research before purchasing to see if it was something that I would actually use. After a bit of hemming and hawing, I decided to get it to pair with another wireless device that I definitely needed.

It’s a device that you can give voice instructions to, and it responds. You have to call the name “Alexa” before you start talking to get its attention. After the initial set up, I started talking to Alexa. My daughter looks up in amazement and says to me “Mom, she can do everything”. I had to laugh. She can’t do everything – I told her that I wish she would clean up for me.

I love the feature that I call her name, and she responds and tells me exactly what I need to know. She responds within seconds. Of course, being the impatient person I am, I start thinking. Jeesh, I wished God responded as quickly and clearly to my requests. Even now I as I’m typing I have to laugh at myself.

I realize that God does answer my prayers. I have the same privilege of calling on the God of the universe and asking Him any questions I want. He may not answer the way Alexa does, but He sure answers. The question I have to ask myself is: am I listening to what He’s telling me? In Jeremiah 33:3, the bible states “Call to Me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know.” Are you calling on Him?

One of the major differences between God and Alexa? Unlike my daughter’s wrong assumption that Alexa can do everything, the God that I serve CAN do everything and He knows everything too.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you that you are the God who hears our requests, even when we do not call your name when we talk to you. You even hear the words that are unspoken in our hearts and respond to them. Thank you for a love that encompasses all, and that you can do ALL things.
