God provides
I’m learning that God has a way of providing for our needs. It may not necessarily be the way we want it but it’s what we need. I shared recently about needing time away and thinking of all the things I thought I would want and wouldn’t be able to find, but God knew beforehand what I needed. Quiet and rest, and I’ve been able to get both. While the conditions aren’t perfect, I’m realizing that even in that, my needs are being taken care of, as I’m just able to stop for a little, and slow down.
My devotion this morning was from 1 Chronicles 12, and verse 18 ASV states “Then the Spirit came upon Amasai, who was chief of the thirty, and he said, Thine are we, David, and on thy side, thou son of Jesse: peace, peace be unto thee, and peace be to thy helpers; for thy God helpeth thee. Then David received them, and made them captains of the band.” Saul and his sons had died in the chapters before, and now these men, who knew that even while Saul had been king, it was really David who had led them in battle. While David might have been concerned how things were going to turn out as he had been relentlessly pursued by Saul, I’m sure he remembered God’s promises to him. When the time came for David to become king, he didn’t even have to go searching for these men. The Bible states that they were the ones who came presenting themselves to David. You see, God had anointed David as the next king, and even though it took a long time to come to fruition, when the appointed time came, God provided the ways and means to get it accomplished.
Friends, when we ask things of God or when God makes us a promise, our duty is to continue to trust and to walk in faith that He is able to do exceedingly and abundantly all that He has said.
Dear Heavenly Father, we thank you for providing for our needs, even if it’s by windy conditions that help us to just stop and be still and not have a flurry of activities that are always beckoning us. Thank you for providing just what we need, even before we need them. Help us to continue to walk in faith and to trust you, even when we can’t see.
