It seems this has been the theme for this week in and outside of my household.
My daughter is navigating eight year old girl friendships, and, needless to say, sometimes it can be not so fun.
She shared with me a challenge she was having and as I know it’s my job to help her, but sometimes helping means allowing her to figure it out, I decided that it was a matter we would take to our Father. That night, in our bed time prayer, I asked God for what we were seeking. The next morning in our morning prayer, I asked again.
Just later that day, I observed that God had answered our prayers. When I pointed it out to her, she smiled, acknowledging that God had indeed answered.
In a separate conversation with my friend, she had driven miles and miles to go see a friend. I thought of the times that she had driven miles and miles to either come see me or take me to speaking engagements when I couldn’t go by myself.
I’m not one to ask for time consuming favors. But, if I even mention a need I have, she is quick to do what she can so she can help me. In my opinion, she has gone above and beyond for me on so many occasions, without even blinking an eye.
She is good to her friends, and her friends are good to her. I tell her that I believe that because she is such a good friend, she has many good friends as well.
Yesterday, someone I have not spoken with in over 20 years reached out, and I was amazed as we picked up our conversation and honesty, as if we had seen each other the day before. Even now, it’s making me smile.
Proverbs 17:17 NIV states, ‘A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.’
Proverbs 27:9 NIV states, ‘Perfume and incense bring joy to the heart, and the pleasantness of one’s friends springs from his earnest counsel.’
And Jamaicans say: ‘a good friend is better than pocket money’
Thank you for those of you who are my good friends. I am tremendously blessed by your friendship.
Dear Heavenly Father, I know that when things are important, the theme is repeated. Thank you for the ways that you show up. Thank you for continuing to show me and my daughter that you care about the very details of our lives. I pray that as we aim to have good friends, that we will also show ourselves to be good friends to others.
