Fresh Perspective?

I’m sitting in my backyard and wondering why I never did this before. As I want to get annoyed with myself I realize a few things.

I never made the time. I was always busy. But even more importantly, my backyard was not what it is now.

Over the last few years of living here, I had the opportunity to install a fence that closed it in. A couple years later, I removed a somewhat dilapidated shed that had been here that I never really needed. I did a few other minor things, but which have added a major difference in the feeling.

Something else occurred to me a few days ago.

I’m allergic to dust and I started noticing that whenever I laid down, that I would start coughing. I started to investigate what could be the possible cause. While the normal course of dusting had been happening, there were some crevices that I hadn’t even thought to look. I did the side of the bed that was facing me then moved my bed and started doing the other side. I realized there were more areas to dust once the bed was moved.

When I moved in over seven years ago, my room was set up. All the big pieces of furniture in one place, based on the thoughts of those helping me to move. The cable guy ran the line and the tv was set in that one spot. Each time I thought of potentially making a change (not often), I said the tv needed to be in that spot – which did not leave room for other layouts.

Fast forward to a few days ago when I was dusting and moving things. I realized that I had given up cable two years ago – and the layout I had to have, was no longer necessary.

Somehow, my supernatural strength kicked in, and I moved everything around. This new layout has created more space and a different view point (and less coughing when I lay down).

I’m sitting here contemplating how many small (but impactful) changes I’ve made.

Now that I’m in a season of slowing down, my brain has the capacity to look with a fresh perspective.

Is there something that you have always done because it worked in the past, but may no longer be working for you?

What do you need to change to make it fit your current life? Can you ask the Lord for wisdom and insight so that He may reveal what no longer is working for you and how to fix it?

Dear Heavenly Father, I’m so grateful that you have called me to slow down, even though it goes against everything that I have been taught. Thank you for the fresh perspective you provide.
