Entertaining Angels Unaware

This year for my big birthday, I decided to do a big trip. As I love traveling and have been to many places in the Caribbean, I decided this trip should be a little different. I decided on a trip to Europe.

If you know me and directions, I’m excellent at getting to my ‘almost destination’. I can maneuver a lot of detail – except when I am literally within a few minutes of where I need to be. That’s typically where I get lost.

Sure enough, this trip was no different. We made it on planes, trains and a water bus in Venice – only to not be able to make it to our apt that we had rented in Venice. Our Airbnb has a very distinct name – it was within steps of a popular place. Easy enough, right? Wrong!

There were signs posted everywhere of this popular place, and I still couldn’t find it. I asked multiple locals – they had no idea. The street signs and alleys are not very clear. I stopped and asked a man who looked like a tourist. He offers to help me and he says he was going in that direction anyway, he’d walk with me.

The only way I (and my family) can describe this man is that he was an angel. We had been traveling for many hours already, and when we finally find the apt with his help – the host is not there to receive us. He takes us to a restaurant to get WiFi and bathroom access, he speaks to the server in her native language, and when they did not have WiFi – he shared his hotspot password with me – allowing me the access I needed for my emails to start popping up and the email I need to get access to the apt. At one point, he even helped me carry my bags. He spent close to 45 minutes of his limited time helping us.

I can’t tell you how grateful I was that he showed up when he did. The Bible tells us to be careful how we treat strangers, because we may be entertaining angels unaware. He was definitely our angel.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for sending people and angels to our rescue just when we need them. Help us to be kind to those we come in contact with as well – because we may be entertaining angels, while we are unaware.
