Do you remember?

Finding Dory spoiler alert…

I spend a lot of time watching animations with my daughter. Sometimes there are such powerful underlying messages.

In this animation, Dory, a very forgetful fish had gotten separated from her parents when she was little. Many years later something jogs her memory and she remembers that she had parents. She’s able to remember little snippets here and there that sends her on a search for the once forgotten parents but knowing that they had loved her propelled her to cross the big ocean in search of them.

On the way there, the doubts started coming to her as to whether her parents would remember her or even love her.

When she finally makes it to her destination and after much searching in the facilities, she finds out that shortly after she went missing, her parents had left in search for her. She accidentally makes it back out to the vast ocean, this time completely alone. This is the point where she has another memory. She LOVED shells. First she sees one, and starts following it, then another and then another. When she looks up, she see shells coming from many directions in one straight line, but all leading to one point. Her long lost parents home.

You see, after she had accidentally gotten separated from her parents, her parents decided to stay in the same spot in case one day their long lost daughter would come home. They spent the time preparing for her return. They knew her and they knew that she was forgetful. So they spent their days collecting shells and leaving markers for her in case she were to return one day, never losing hope.

Does this story sound familiar?

We have a Heavenly Father who has stayed in one place and set up markers for us to lead us back to Him. He won’t be mad or disappointed that you got lost. All He wants is for you to return home to Him.

Are you having trouble finding your way? He’s left reminders for you, but you must follow them. His love has not stopped and He has not forgotten you.

Dear Heavenly Father, we thank you for animations that can even remind us of your love for us. Father, we thank you for always pointing the way back to us. Help us to remember that when we feel far from you that it is us that have drifted. You were the same yesterday, today and forever. Thank you for guiding us back home.
