Now that our tenants are gone, it’s time to clean up and rebuild. It’s been a long journey, but we are thankful it’s over.
As a part of the major clean up process, we ripped up the carpets. Our friend came and helped our family. There were boards with nails that remained after that major job was done. I looked around and because I was eager to do something, I said that I was able to do it. Hmmm.
He left his carpet tool and cautioned that I needed to have the right tool for the job.
The following day when I was doing the hard labor of lifting up the boards with the flat part of the tool that had been securely nailed down, all I kept thinking was how grateful I was to have the right tool. Had I tried anything but what I had been left, I knew it wouldn’t have worked.
This got me thinking…
As a Christian, do I have the right tool, and am I using it in my daily life?
I know that God has endowed us with different gifts and talents, but to exercise those gifts and talents, we must also use the tools the Bible tells us.
I consider the fruit of the spirit some of the tools that will make us good Christians when we actively use them.
The fruit of the Spirit is: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control.
Although there are 9 items listed, they are viewed as one fruit – hence the grammar ‘is’.
Are you using the right tools for the job?
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for your love. Thank you for supplying us with the right tools so that we can do the job you have called us to do. Help us to be diligent in our tasks for you.
