As the year comes to a close, this thought comes to mind, ‘do not despise humble beginnings’.
A friend (now sister) from social media shared these words with me as I started my writing journey. I started writing a blog in 2016, and only by God’s grace, has continued, consistently, to the present.
As I think of my further journey, I want to share with you what this picture represents: my hand written notes to and from God since 2019. Four journals, completely filled, with the one I’m looking forward to using for 2023.
I’d been gifted a journal in 2017, but it sat hardly being used.
In 2019, as I dealt with paralyzing driving anxiety, I bought a journal from my publisher ‘Overcoming Anxiety’ and it provided a framework for how to journal. It was just the directive I needed. It was a 30 day ‘class’ on journaling, specific to the situation I was facing.
When that journal finished, I moved back to the one I’d been gifted in 2017. Then, each year since then, I’ve filled the pages.
My current format is this: write a few verses of scripture that are highlighted to me. Then I meditate on those, or I just freely talk to God, taking time to pause.
If someone had said that I could have filled books with writing (some journals have over 200 pages), I’m not sure how much I would have believed them.. but, the consistency over time, has exceeded what I would have believed for myself.
Is there something you are worrying about starting? My suggestion, don’t worry too much about the end goal – just start, and keep going one step at a time. You’ll be amazed at how much you can accomplish with that attitude.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for things that we have been able to do, simply by slowing down and spending time in your presence. Please help us to continue to trust you for every outcome, remembering that we may also have a role to play.
