I started a new devotion from the Bible app titled ‘Redeeming Your Time’. The app has a great number of devotions on just about any topic that you can think of.
This particular devotion hit home as a friend was just telling me some of the same concepts earlier in the week as we’re discussing work related items. I had made a joke about it, but here were some of her advice again about how to complete tasks in your brain, even if you chose not to do them at that moment.
As I’m writing this, I realized I’d had a similar thought this week. When I got overwhelmed at my to do list or how life stood, I took it to pen and paper/excel/white board, where I could easily see it one place. My brain can have clarity around whatever is causing me overwhelm, and I may even realize the situation is not as bad as it may seem in my head.
One of the verses that was used in the devotion was:
”Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.“
Philippians 4:6-7 NIV
As I’ve both presented the situation to God and written in down (in whatever format works), I can have peace in the situation. I no longer have to feel the anxiety that a situation can bring when I can’t visualize it.
Are you dealing with situations in your mind that may be causing you stress and anxiety? There are a few things that you can consider doing:
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Write it down.
Speak with a trusted friend (get it out of your mind), and this friend may even be able to share wise counsel and another perspective.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you that while we may have things we are dealing with, you have also given us solutions on how to get them done. Remind me of the tools you’ve already given me when I start to get overwhelmed, thinking I need to tackle them in my own power.
