This week I had the opportunity to do something I rarely make time for: to get a manicure and pedicure at the same time. I guessed what time the salon would be open and went around then. To my disappointment, both salons (same owners) were still closed. I knew there was another one not too far away, so I drove there.
When I arrived, it appeared the staff had just gotten in. They were busy cleaning up the store, and I was the only client there. I told them what I wanted. They assigned someone to me, while the others kept at their individual tasks. When they were done, they each sat down and most of them got on their phone. Except one lady. She was practicing how to apply the nail polish on the end of another bottle cover.
As I was the only one there, the person who was taking care of me, gave me an extended amount of time, making sure all the details were taken care of. But I continued to watch the other lady practicing. I was fascinated with how much time she was taking to perfect her art. When she was done practicing on the bottle cover, she called a colleague over and proceeded to practice polishing her nails.
The scripture came to mind:
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”
Colossians 3:23-24 NIV
I continue to be impressed with the amount of dedication I saw her putting in, she might very well have been new and needed more practice than the others, but it was her diligence that caught and kept my attention.
I pray that whatever I choose to do or that I am called to do, that I will give it a level of attention that is please to my Father.
Dear Heavenly Father, sometimes you have asked simple things of us, and we think they are too simple and do not want to give it our best. Help us to realize that before we are assigned the complicated and big things, that we must prove ourselves capable of handling the simple instructions. Help us to be faithful and diligent in all we do.
