I was talking with a friend recently and I was sharing that when we are seeking God for direction, if we are not on the right path, He will do a course correction. After we spoke, some more, he asked me to write on the topic. I jokingly said ‘I’m not too sure about that, so we’ll see’..
Here I am. Writing on the topic I wasn’t too sure I would be writing about – especially as it tied into another thought I’d had earlier in the day, and chuckled and told God that I didn’t want to write on that.
Some time ago, I was asking God some questions. I was wondering if I’d made up some things, so I asked the question.
The response came back instantly: ‘Is this the path you would have taken?’
I think I started laughing out loud, because my answer was a resounding ‘NO’… This is definitely not the path I would have taken.
Psalm 32:8 states ‘I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you’
Isaiah 30:21 ‘Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it’
Job 23:11 ‘My feet have closely followed his steps, I have kept to his way without turning aside’
Psalm 37:23 ‘The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him’
I cannot tell you that I’ve walked with God perfectly, and I know the direction I am to go at all times. I have come to learn that if we are determined to seek God with our whole hearts, and we go to Him in sincerity asking which way to go, there are multiple promises in the Bible that He will guide us.
What happens if we start on a path that we shouldn’t go?
I wholeheartedly believe that He will course correct us. We may have to deal with some consequences, but, He will gracefully set us on the course that we are meant to be on.
Dear Heavenly Father, we are so grateful for your love and care. Even when we think it’s not the thing we want to do, or even the thing we don’t want to do, you have a way of correcting us and leading us on the right path. We are so grateful that your ways are higher than our ways, and you see the beginning from the end, and you will never lead us astray. Help us to accept when you have changed the path for us.
