I am without a phone today.
When I got to the train platform I started looking in my bag and realized I did not have it. As I sat on the train, I reached for the phone because it’s the perfect time to catch up on my news, friends and social media. I did not have it. Instead, I closed my eyes and sleep.
When I got to my destination, I panicked. How was I going to order my morning drink? I typically order it about 5 minutes prior to getting to the store, then waltz right in, grab my drink and waltz right back out – no waiting. Then I remembered I still had my wallet with my trusty credit card.
As soon as I got to work, I had my colleague do “find my iPhone”. It’s right where I left it – at home. That’s actually good news as I didn’t lose it.
I went to log on to my bank account – it needs to send me verification that it’s really me. It can either send a text or email. I have access to neither, as I use my phone for both. I can’t check my account.
All these events really got me thinking.
Imagine if I were this connected to Jesus? As I recount all the things I needed my phone for (and I’m sure I did not mention all), I realize just how attached I am to my phone. I want to get to the point that for everything I need, I reach out to Jesus, or my bible for the answers.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for your lessons in such simple things. Lord, help us to stay connected to you because if we are not, we will have no strength and we will not be able to grow into the people you have called us to be. Help us to use our time wisely so that we will be able to build deeper and stronger roots in you.
