One of my least interesting facts about me is I enjoy scrolling social media. It has a way of sucking you in, so I try to be cautious with my use, but I’m not always successful.
I also enjoy reading a good story.
I love seeing or reading different perspectives of people based on their frames of reference and the lives they’ve experienced.
As many of us know, we are in an election year in the US, so, there is also ample opportunity to see different perspectives of different people.
Over the years, I’ve seen posts and while I’ll likely never add a comment, the posts make me pause and say ‘interesting’…
There are a few verses in the Bible that speaks on this matter ‘out of the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks’.
You see, as a society, we have become very comfortable posting many of our thoughts. They are formed in our mind, and we feel the need to share them publicly on the various social media channels without much thought as to the potential impact.
In my very early years working in my corporate role, one of the partners had a saying: ‘don’t do it if you don’t want to see it on the front page of The NY Times or Wall Street Journal’. I’ve held on to this bit of advice for many years, although not always perfectly.
Friends, would you choose wisely as you contemplate what to post or what to comment on?
Not every post deserves a comment, and no need to argue with strangers behind a screen.
Once words are shared, they cannot be taken back, no matter how much we apologize.
Please choose wisely on how to proceed in what we say or do.
Dear Heavenly Father, would you please remind us to be careful with our words? Would you please purify our hearts and get to the root of the words we say? Help us to seek your wisdom in the things we do or say.
