Childlike Faith

I’ve noticed something recently with my daughter.

For me, it’s funny and frustrating all at once.

She asks for things frequently, as do most children her age.

The thing that I’ve observed with her though is once she’s asked me once or twice if I don’t flat out say ‘no’, even if I haven’t said ‘yes’, she starts speaking of the event as if it’s already a done deal.

Let me give you an example: ‘Mom, can we go to Dollar Tree?’

‘I’m not sure, we have other things to do.’

My daughter is one of the most persistent people I’ve ever met. Yet another funny, but frustrating trait when I’m on the other end of her persistence.

She’ll ask three more times and when I give my noncommitted response, her language changes.

‘Mom, WHEN we go to Dollar Tree, I’m going to look for xyz’..

Notice how her words change to what she believes will happen?

I often have to laugh, and be reminded why it’s so important for me to exercise that same level of child like faith.

When she asks for something, she fully believes that once it is in the scope of my power (and not too expensive), it will be done, so she starts speaking as if the thing is done, and starts planning accordingly.

I’m still learning from her, and I pray to exercise that level of faith with my Heavenly Father, fully believing that if something is in His will, that He will grant it to me. I wonder if He chuckles at me asking the same question over and over?

The one thing I’m grateful for: He does not get frustrated when I ask the same question over and over.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for your love. Thank you that you desire for us to come to you with child like faith, and you even model what that looks like through children.
