Bumpy Roads Can Lead to Beautiful Destinations

For Spring Break, we visited the beautiful island of Jamaica.

As we were making plans to go, there were some things that were high on my excursion lists.

One of the places my mom wanted to go was a Beach that we had both gone to in the past, and were waiting with bated breath to know if in the future, it would be closed to the general public due to home construction going on.

As we were discussing with a friend what we wanted to do, we told her of this beach. It wasn’t too far from where we were, but it might take some effort to get to.

When we got there, they had put in new roads and I was pleasantly surprised compared to the last time I went. These roads were smooth and brand new. The previous ‘road’ was not really a road, but more of a clear path that we had to slowly maneuver our way to get to the beach.

Well, to my surprise, the smooth road continued – but in the direction of the new homes. The path we were being directed to get to the beach was once again just a path. As we made the turn off, we had to gingerly drive. Going so slow as to avoid the car being damaged. We made it down the last hill and parked, with a sigh of relief that we had made it.

I have a saying for places like these ‘if you don’t know what you are looking for, you’re likely not going to find it’.

However, once we paid our entry and walked in, the beauty of the place is unmatched. Because it’s a cove, the area is secluded from big waves, and there are lots of trees to protect from the sun – so even though we arrived at noon when the sun was at its highest peak, the place was cool and welcoming.

Are you walking/traveling a bumpy path? You expected the road to be smooth and easy to navigate and instead it’s been filled with bumps and bruises along the way?

I’ve been camping out in Proverbs 3:5-6 lately and as I thought about what I’d be writing. I noticed something.. When we submit everything to our Father, the promise is that He will make our paths straight. The path will be straight, but I don’t see where it says it will be bump free.

Just like this lesson I learned, because the path is filled with lots of bumps, doesn’t mean the destination won’t be beautiful. Hold on and keep going, even if you have to slow down a bit.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for your creation. Thank you for your lessons along the way. Help us to recognize your promise of making the paths straight, but help us to hold fast to you when we are experiencing unexpected bumps along the way.
