I saw the title for the month for our sabbath school and the verse came back to me: Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labor in vain.
It’s even under lined in my Bible.
For a few years, I had it written on an 8 by 10 sheet of paper in a place I could see it often.
This verse was an important reminder for the state of life I was walking through.
We cannot build anything without a firm foundation.
Have you ever seen a home built without a proper foundation? The builder may have tried to take shortcuts and not go deep enough in the ground.
What do you think will happen relatively quickly?
It will either collapse or when it settles, you won’t have a strong house at all.
Not too long ago, a few houses away from me, I noticed they dug a deep foundation. I was curious as to what they were building, as this house had been there since before I moved into the area.
Day after day, I watched to see.
The owners were extending the living size of their home. They first started by digging deep, then laying the blocks for the foundation, then ultimately, they were able to extend their walls out to the new foundation.
Today, it’s hard to tell that the house wasn’t always the size that it is currently.
This is the real life/practical example for me.
As I work with clients in their financial lives, I teach them that they have to build on a strong foundation, by creating good habits.
But when I went back to the verse, it was a stark reminder: unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labor in vain.
Friends, what are you trying to build that you know the Lord is telling you no?
Based on this verse, you are laboring in vain.
No matter how ideal you think something may be, if the Lord is not in it, you are laboring in vain.
And can I remind you of the converse?
If the Lord builds the foundation, no one… and l mean no one.. can tear it down.
Friends, as you are thinking of building anything.. would you allow the Lord to build it on His firm foundation?
I promise, you won’t regret it.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you that you are the foundation of everything we hope for. Help us to depend on you for your strength and wisdom as we work to build anything in our lives.
