Winter is finally over!
I can see and hear the signs of spring. The birds are chirping and have become my morning alarm. The grass is going from dry burnt yellow to patches of green. And one of my favorites – the temperature hit nearly 70 degrees yesterday.
With the return of warm weather, and the shedding of the coats, I start to pay attention to something that I like a little less: the winter weight I’ve gained. I start to think of all the drastic measures I must take to make myself feel better.
A 10 day cleanse? Will need a lot of prep work – for which I don’t have the time at the moment.
A 3 day detox? Hmmm. I don’t know if I can survive on teas and juices – with little food. And still, my brain is being pulled in 10 directions and I need energy.
Drastic exercise regimen? Can’t seem to wake up and still have enough time to do all my morning routines and still make it to work on time.
Then it occurred to me.
Why do I feel the need that I need to make these drastic changes to get the results I want?
How about instead of doing something big, I start with little changes? Incorporate more water. Walk more? Eat smaller portions?
None of these are major life changes, but combined, will slowly and continually give me the desired results.
Are you struggling in an area of your life that you think you need to make all or none changes? How about starting small. Studies show that when we make small, continuous changes, that’s how real change happens. If we try to be too drastic – we will be inclined to give up much quicker.
Will you commit to making one small change with me?
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you that it’s not all or nothing with you. Thank you that you honor small changes in our lives that lead to drastic results over time. Help us to be patient with ourselves as we are not seeing change or the desired outcome in the short term.
