Being strong

I’ve heard a few times lately how strong I am. First of all, thank you for thinking that. And I have to laugh and think to myself, if only you knew.  Over the last few years, I’ve had to rely so heavily on God’s love, and that’s where my strength may have emerged. While I’ve always considered myself to be independent, strong is not usually one of the words I would use to define myself.  But I would have to guess that when you are faced with some of life’s challenges, and you don’t have much of a choice, you either choose to be strong, or break in the face of those challenges.  I’ve chosen the former, with a lot of prayer.

Psalms 121 comes to mind. “I will lift up mine eyes to the hills, from whence cometh my help.  My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.” Lately, I’ve really been looking heavenwards, and relying on God’s strength to make me stronger. I learned this passage of scripture before I turned 10, and it’s been stuck in my mind, and it has even more meaning know that I’ve grown older. I’m learning each day that God desires that we hide His words in our hearts that when fear and doubt try to set in, that we are able to draw on God’s words and promises, knowing that they are true.

Today I don’t know what you are facing, and what you may need strength for, but I am suggesting that you look up. God is a strength in time of trouble, but you must trust him.

Lord, as I go through today, help me to be strong in you. Help me to remember that my strength and joy comes from you, and only when I fully rely on you that I can go forward, knowing that I will not break when faced with life’s struggles.
